Volume and Surfaces

यह topic geometrical applications of integration का advanced part माना जाता है।

जब किसी bounded region को किसी axis के about rotate किया जाता है, तो एक solid of revolution बनता है।

यदि region curve y=f(x)y=f(x), x-axis, तथा lines x=ax=a और x=bx=b से bounded हो, और इसे x-axis के about rotate किया जाए, तो हर vertical strip एक circular disc बनाती है।

Example: x-axis के about volume

V=π[x33]02V=\pi \left[\frac{x^3}{3}\right]_0^2

V=π⋅83V=\pi \cdot \frac{8}{3}

अतः required volume है:8π3\boxed{\frac{8\pi}{3}}

यह question volume of revolution का सबसे standard example है।

Example: Washer method

V=π∫01[(2x)2−x2]dxV=\pi \int_0^1 \left[(2x)^2-x^2\right]dx

=π∫01(4x2−x2) dx=\pi \int_0^1 (4x^2-x^2)\,dx

=π∫013x2 dx=\pi \int_0^1 3x^2\,dx

=3π[x33]01=3\pi \left[\frac{x^3}{3}\right]_0^1

=π=\pi

अतः required volume है:π\boxed{\pi}

y-axis के about volume

यदि curve x=f(y)x=f(y) form में हो और rotation y-axis के about हो, तो volume का basic form हो सकता है:V=π∫cdx2 dyV=\pi \int_c^d x^2\,dy

Example: y-axis के about volume

मान लीजिए curvex=yx=y

यदि इस region को y-axis के about rotate करें, तो volume होगा:V=π∫02x2 dyV=\pi \int_0^2 x^2\,dy

लेकिन यहाँ x=yx=y, इसलिएV=π∫02y2 dyV=\pi \int_0^2 y^2\,dy

अब integration करें:V=π[y33]02V=\pi \left[\frac{y^3}{3}\right]_0^2

 =8π3=\frac{8\pi}{3}

अतः required volume है:8π3\boxed{\frac{8\pi}{3}}

Surface of Revolution का basic idea

यदि कोई curve y=f(x)y=f(x), x=ax=a से x=bx=b तक दी गई हो और इसे x-axis के about rotate किया जाए, तो surface area का formula होता है:S=2π∫aby1+(dydx)2 dxS=2\pi \int_a^b y\sqrt{1+\left(\frac{dy}{dx}\right)^2}\,dx

  • 1+(dydx)2 dx\sqrt{1+\left(\frac{dy}{dx}\right)^2}\,dx small arc length element को represent करता है

Example: x-axis के about surface area

S=2π∫01x21+(2x)2 dxS=2\pi \int_0^1 x^2\sqrt{1+(2x)^2}\,dx

S=2π∫01x21+4x2 dxS=2\pi \int_0^1 x^2\sqrt{1+4x^2}\,dx

Graph: Curve used for surface of revolution

y-axis के about surface area

S=2π∫abx1+(dydx)2 dxS=2\pi \int_a^b x\sqrt{1+\left(\frac{dy}{dx}\right)^2}\,dx

Example: y-axis के about surface area

मान लीजिए curvey=xy=x

dydx=1\frac{dy}{dx}=1

अब formula होगा:S=2π∫01x1+12 dxS=2\pi \int_0^1 x\sqrt{1+1^2}\,dx

=2π∫01x2 dx=2\pi \int_0^1 x\sqrt{2}\,dx

=2π2∫01x dx=2\pi\sqrt{2}\int_0^1 x\,dx

=2π2[x22]01=2\pi\sqrt{2}\left[\frac{x^2}{2}\right]_0^1

=π2=\pi\sqrt{2}

अतः required surface area है:π2\boxed{\pi\sqrt{2}}

  • Volume of the solid generated → volume
  • Surface area generated by revolving the curve → surface area

Questions solve

फिर यह पहचानना चाहिए कि rotation x-axis के about है या y-axis के about।

Volume and Surfaces integration
